The weather continues to be good with the occasional batch of high cirrus. Though March is often a difficult month for meteor watchers, April promises higher rates.
From Bob’s notes: “On Friday morning I woke to clear skies so I had an abbreviated session on that morning. The sky was clear Friday night/Saturday morning and I actually obtained some decent rates this morning.”

Meteor flies west to east and lights up the night sky over Norfolk Virginia 29 March 2009.
It was breaking up and flaming Bright White as it ZOOMED overhead.
It seemed like a few minutes later there was a loud Boom. ( if sonic) Boom, it seemed to late?
time about 9:45pm Eastern Time…
Thank you! I saw this while driving south on 270 and started to doubt myself when I couldn’t find anyone else who had seen it- it was this huge, blue, white, and orange flaming ball that moved unbelievably FAST! I did not hear any boom however.
my daughter just told me all her friends are talking about a meteor hitting williamsburg tonight?
just trying to figure out if this is a joke, truth, or she’s doing drugs.
I saw a large ball of blusih orange and white light shootng west to east tonight between 9:30-9:45 pm , I wonder if it was the same thing? I am in Fayetteville North Carolina.
I saw the same exact thing, it lit up the sky… and I’m in Southern MD
Both of us saw the large flaming object in the Southeast sky over Richmond VA at about 9:40 pm last night 3/29. It appeared to be falling down toward ground, moving from NW to SE. Very bright colorful flames blue-green, orange-yellow and white. It seemed so big and close we expected to see some sort of explosion when it “hit”. Object core looked to be long, rectangular and breaking apart as colorful flames flashed around it. Spectacular!
My observance is the same as Diane and Ron’s above. The light (which reminded me of lightening) that surrounded this particular meteor lit up the ground so brightly, that it actually caused me to have a shadow (I was outside at the time). It was very large, with fire trailing behind it. It also had pieces that broke off of the main meteor-causing it to look like fireworks shooting upward and downward-away from the center. We also expected to hear an impact sound-due only to the fact that it was such a large sighting. However, we heard no noise-even as it trailed overhead. I can’t imagine seeing something of this magnitude again in my life!
Has anyone heard of a point of impact of this one? I can’t seem to find any news on where it actually made contact with the ground.
Heard via third parties that many radio news reports of sightings (Charlottesville) and sonic booms (Norfolk, Virginia Beach). Also reports of possible military seach going on for impact site in that area.
I have been looking everywhere for news of this, but up until now found nothing. I knew I could not have been the only one that saw the meteor.
saw the some meteor about 9 9:30 while traveling west bound on I40 near greensboro NC
Saturday around 7:30 8:00, I saw a large fireball in the northeastern sky from Sahuarita, AZ It was big.
We live about 5 miles from the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. At about 9:40pm, I saw a brilliant pale blue (almost white) flash. We’ve been expecting storms, so I didn’t think anything of it. A couple minutes later, my husband and I heard a deep, low rumble, them our home shook. We went outside expecting to see fire & smoke, but onlu found other people in our neighborhood walking around asking one another if they heard & felt what happened. It freaked us out a bit & totally freaked out our cats. My Mom lives 10 minutes away West of us & she saw a brilliant blue flash, heard the rumble & her home shook. Really creaped us out!
Santa Barbara, California – Saw 6 white flaming lights falling from the sky around 7pm West Coast time, Monday, March 30, 2009. At the highest point it looked to be a jet and the white streams falling from the sky were in direct line of the jet falling toward the horizon. There were gaps between the white streams but they were all in alignment.

I live in canada, a Town called Almonte, west of Ottawa Ontario. Tuesday at about 10pm the power went out and the sky turned blue twice for about 5 seconds about 30 seconds apart. there was no sound at all, and the light was brighter than any lighting I have ever seen, not to mention that I have never seen the sky turn blue and stay blue with lighting. The power came back on a few hours later. this is the first place i have found other people who have written about this. Everyone who was awake and looking outside at the time in Almonte saw this and many people are trying to get answers but finding none.
I live in Virginia Beach, VA and I experienced that same thing! I didnt see a flash though because I was inside my apartment at the time. We were expecting thunder storms that night anyway so I didnt think much of the rumber sound that I heard. The only thing that really creeped me out was the fact that with the rumble sound my apartment started shaking. I went outside shortly after and saw the skies were clear so it couldnt have been thunder. I thought I was losing my mind.
We were about 55 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, traveling on I-71 N through Kentucky in the early morning (around 1:35am EDT) on March 31, 2009. A bright white light in the Northeastern sky caught my attention. I initially thought it was an airplane, but it became increasingly larger and was moving westward and down. It ended in a burst of blue/green and orange. The colors were brilliant.
I made a mistake, it was on Sunday night when this happened!! To many late night with babies, everyday melts together. There was no lighting storms here that night either.
I live near Amagansett, NY. On Sunday night there was a passing thunderstorm and I was on my way home from work. I could see lightning in the distance. Shortly after arriving home at about 10:45pm there was an incredible blue flash and VERY loud and deep explosion after several seconds. It was not like any lightning that I ever experienced. The newscaster on the radio this morning said there had been a large meteor – didn’t say where though. Interesting that such a wide area saw the same thing.
April 30th,2009 Santa Barbara California.
I was looking out my window at about 9 PM and saw a bright light in the sky which I first thought was the reflection of a car’s headlights in the street. But there was only one, and it moved in a slow arc toward the horizon, and dissipated at about 45 degrees.
I wondered if anyone else saw it?
I was walking around on my driveway around midnight July 26, 2009 when i noticed a bright light above me, I looked up over the roof of my house and seen a big ball of green, purple, and yellow. I thought maybe it was a firework at first but it was way too high to be a firework, because i live on a huge hill overlooking a valley it couldn’t have been one. It looked like it was moving a little slow to be a meteor but i could be wrong. I didn’t get to see where it went or anything because my house was in the way. It left a trail in the sky like smoke or something. I wondered if anyone else seen it so i talked about it on facebook and told a few friends and it turns out a few other people i know did see it.
Last night, November 14th, at about 1-2 o’clock (Couldnt see the clock because my power was out) There were two bright green flashes that lit up my whole room, and lasted about one second in all. It would seem that nobody else saw them, and when I looked out my window, I could see nothing out of the normal, maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me, but I couldnt sleep the rest of the night, because I wanted to see it if it happened again. Did ANYONE at ALL see that?
