Cirrus and the brightening Moon have conspired to keep meteor rates down over southern CA and AZ. These clouds mark the beginning of an unsettled weather pattern that will see up to 3 storm systems affect the southwest US over the next 4 days. Hopefully there will be enough gaps in the clouds to allow a few meteors to be seen.
From Bob’s notes for the night of Feb 4/5: “High clouds were present all night long. They were thin enough to allow observations. I decided to start after the moon had set and managed to capture 8 sporadic meteors despite the cloud cover.”
